West Orange has Essex County's largest variety of housing — from older Pleasantdale Tudors to mid-century splits, plus newer townhouse developments. Bigger lots and longer runs are the norm.
Compared to its more uniform neighbors, West Orange covers a much wider range of housing eras and styles. Pleasantdale and the Edison-area neighborhoods (named for Thomas Edison's nearby laboratory and estate) have older Tudors, Colonials and stone homes. The Crystal Lake and Llewellyn Park areas have everything from historic mansions to mid-century moderns. Newer townhouse developments, condo complexes and recent infill construction sit alongside 1920s bungalows.
Bigger lots also mean longer vent runs, especially in homes where the laundry was retrofitted into a basement. We routinely see 30+ foot equivalent runs in larger West Orange Colonials.
